Employee Interview - Matt Briggs

The first of many... Name Matt Briggs How did you get involved with Starr Hill? I was looking for a job in the brewing industry since I worked in Bison Brewery in Berkeley beforehand. Basically, after harassing Mark for a year and a half and waiting for an opening to come up, they finally needed somebody after they got this facility, so that’s where I kind of stepped in and started out working in the cellar, in filtration, and kegging. What do you do at Starr Hill and how long have you worked here? I am the Operations Manager, and I’ve worked here a little over three years. What does the Operations Manager do? Uh, everything. Mainly it’s logistics on inbound and outbound materials, freight, productions scheduling, new packaging, alcohol taxes, the finances and all that crap. And anything else they throw at me. Oh, and fixing stuff when it breaks. What is your favorite TV show, the character you most relate to, and why? Flight of the Conchords. Flying Circus. I dunno, Brian [the dog from Family Guy]. Do you cry at movies? No. What is your favorite band? My favorite band is probably Opeth. It’s a metal band from Sweden. What is your best Starr Hill memory? Probably Bonnaroo at 6 o’clock in the morning trying to get the golf cart away from Taylor. What is the best part of working at Starr Hill? I think just getting to see the company evolve this much over three years and how much we’ve grown, how much we’ve expanded. I feel like we’re actually getting to see the company grow up. What are your feelings on karaoke? Anger. I just don’t like karaoke. Do you sing in the shower? No. Do you have any pet peeves? People who don’t know how to rotate inventory. What is your weirdest quirk? Either twirling my hair or laughing at inappropriate times. What is the last thing you ate? Chinese chicken. Who would win in an arm-wrestling contest between you and Nate? I’d kick his ass. Blow dry, towel dry, or air dry? Towel dry.
