THANK YOU to all of you attended in 2011 and spent a beautiful day in Nelson County enjoying steamed, grilled and raw oysters alongside amazing hot dogs, brauts and grits.  It was evident that people around Central Virginia lovedoysters!  If you attended the event last year find out about some of the changes in 2012 we’ll be making (including limiting ticket sales!).  Also new for this year’s event are a limited amount of group packages and single admission tickets for “The Mobjack Lounge.”  This package includes admission to the event, reserved seating under a tent, complimentary concession tickets and all you can eat steamed oysters.  A silent auction to raise money for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will also take place on the event grounds the day of the event.  Items and services from local and regional businesses will be auctioned and proceeds will go to directly benefit the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program.

LivingSocial’s Craft Beer + Food Truck Festival

Sat, April 21, 2012 - 12:00pm
Ticket Price:

$35

Venue Info:

Kastles Stadium at The Wharf
800 Water Street SW
Washington, District of Columbia

Warm weather is here and we’re due for a spring cleaning. Refresh your seasonal rituals with this Adventure: LivingSocial’s Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival on either April 21 or 22, including unlimited 5-ounce tastings of craft beer, ten awesome food trucks, live music from local bands, and activities—all on DC’s Southwest waterfront at Kastles Stadium at The Wharf.

Located just minutes from the L’Enfant and Waterfront Metro stations, this shindig begins at noon, so dust off that warm weather gear and sign in with one of our stellar team members who’ll be on-hand throughout the day to keep the good times rolling. Once you arrive, you’ll receive a 5-ounce BeerFest mini beer stein, which you’ll use to sample some 50 craft beers from more than 20 breweries planning to attend, including New Belgium, Harpoon, Redstone, Evolution, and many more. Each brewery will be pouring two of its top-notch brews, and you’ll have tastes of them all.

As you roam from the grounds tasting brews, you’ll dive into delicious eats from ten of the district’s most popular food trucks, including Lobster Truck DC, DC Empanadas, DC Slices, and more. Each truck will have a full menu available for purchase, so be sure to bring some extra cash to delve into the array of delicious eats. Throughout the day, you’ll have a chance to clean up at a variety of backyard games (think: corn hole), and soak in the sounds of local bands performing live on stage, including DC favorite U.S. Royalty. You’ll also receive a pair of LivingSocial sunglasses to shade your peepers from that sweet springtime sun. Forget the flowers and field trips this season—food on wheels, bands on stage, and beers on the house are the perfect way to give spring in Washington a fresh start.

Rocktown Beer & Music Fest

Rocktown Beer & Music Fest

Ticket Price:

$32

Venue Info:

The Turner Pavilion
228 South Liberty Street
Harrisonburg, Virginia

Purchase tickets here.

Over the past couple of years a beer festival has been the most requested event of the Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance Association, and last year we made it a reality. HDR is excited to announce that we will once again bring the community together for the 2nd annual Rocktown Beer Festival at the beautiful new Turner Pavilion in the heart of Downtown Harrisonburg.

The 2011 Rocktown Beer and Music Festival was a success by every measure. Three thousand plus happy people converged on Downtown Harrisonburg to enjoy a day of great music, food, and craft beer. The crowds were drawn from a large cross section of the community and the only disappointed people were the 500 or so who showed up to purchase tickets to the sold out event and couldn’t get in. 2012’s festival is shaping up to meet or exceed last years results and the organizers and sponsors have a lot of surprises in store for this year’s Rocktown Beer & Music Festival!

Save the Date: Saturday, April 21st 2012!

The Beer!
Once again the festival will celebrate the quality and diversity of America’s craft beer culture. Each brewery is handpicked and will be represented at the festival by a member of that brewery. The breweries will bring their flagship brew as well as a seasonal or rare beer (64 beers total) so even savvy beer fans will find something new to get excited about.

The Place!
The Turner Pavilion (Farmer’s Market Pavilion) is the heart of the festival and houses all the beer vendors. The field next to provides a grassy area to relax and listen to music, sit down and get a bite to eat from a local food vendor, or take a quiet moment to wonder how you made it so far in life without you brand new favorite brew. The downtown location and proximity to the local restaurants and shops means that the festival can be a part of a larger day spent downtown, offering guests yet another reason to make it a full day of entertainment to look forward to and enjoy.

The Music!
The festival’s focus on quality music was a large part of its success in 2011 and we feel that the 2012 lineup will get just as much attention if not more. “No BS Brass Band” are a Richmond VA favorite and will open the festival followed by “Yarn” out of Brooklyn, NY who is back by popular demand after headlining last year. “The War on Drugs” from Philadelphia, PA has made many critics “best of” lists for 2011 with it’s album “Slave Ambient.”

The festival offers two four-hour sessions.  The first session will be from noon to 4pm and the second session will be from 6pm to 10pm.  Standard admission to a single session is $40 in advance ($50 day of the event if available).

VIP tickets are $75 per session and sell out quickly!  The ticket includes a World Beer Festival commemorative glass, an upscale food buffet (hot catered meal), a private hospitality area, a separate entrance, private restrooms, a gift bag, and a bonus of extra special beers not available at the brewers’ tables.

At each Festival, we benefit a local charity we’ve chosen for their contribution to the vibrancy of their city.  For the third year, Artsplosure is our benefactor, and we are so proud and impressed by their growing impact in Raleigh.  Not only do they produce the much-beloved Artsplosure Festival, they also orchestrate First Night on New Years Eve.

Join us on March 28th for a special Cask Night at 12 South Taproom in Nashville!

The Brewer’s Choice cask offering from Starr Hill is an oak-infused version of the brewery’s most award-winning beer, Dark Starr Stout. Each cask is personally oaked with Jameson-soaked oak chips. This gives the beer an earthy sweetness that mellows the roasted barley flavor. The beer is dispensed in the old English style—slightly warmer and less carbonated than traditional draft. The warmer temperature and lower carbonation allows for the complex malt and hop balance to shine through.

Willow Branch
From the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, Willow Branch is a traditional bluegrass band. They have performed at the world famous Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Willow Branch has twice been named “Best Bluegrass Band” in Virginia by the Virginia Folk Music Association.

Robbie Wells & The Wells Clan
Robbie Wells of Lynchburg, VA adds a dynamic mix on fiddle, guitar, mandolin and vocals. Hailing from the hills of Kentucky, Robbie’s roots run deep in bluegrass and old-time music. His list of awards is extensive and includes honors at many traditional festival gatherings as well as being honored as the Virginia State Fiddle Champion.

What we do on the land has a direct impact on the quality of our streams and rivers, and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay, where the oysters at the Blue Ridge Oyster Festival come from.  When it rains, chemicals, fertilizer, and other pollutants wash untreated into local storm drains and directly into waterways throughout the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.  This “runoff pollution” can be harmful not only to aquatic life like oysters, fish, and crabs, but it poses human health risks too.

Oysters play a key role in helping to restore the Chesapeake Bay by filtering water.  One single oyster can clean up to 60 gallons of water every day. More oysters and oyster reefs are needed, which is why we’re proudly recycling all the oyster shells from this year’s Blue Ridge Oyster Festival for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s many oyster restoration projects.

It’s important to be good stewards of the land in our daily lives. Doing so is easy, and it has an added benefit of saving you money while saving your local streams, rivers, and the Bay downstream. You can learn more at cbf.org.
